FAQs

How does Sweetwater Authority process Public Records Request?

Sweetwater Authority processes Public Records Requests through its public records portal, NextRequest, in accordance with the California Public Records Act (CPRA), as outlined in Government Code ยง 7920.000 and subsequent sections. Upon receiving a request, the Authority will assess whether it possesses disclosable records within 10 days. In certain cases, particularly when the request is complex, the Authority may extend this period by an additional 14 days to thoroughly conduct a search for responsive records.

If disclosable records are available, the Authority is committed to providing the relevant non-exempt documents within a reasonable timeframe. Please note that response times may vary based on the nature and volume of records requested as well as the scope or timeframe of the inquiry.

Who has access to my contact information?

The contact information of requesters is not publicly displayed on the portal. However, please be aware that all communications sent and received by any Sweetwater Authority employee fall under the California Public Records Act (CPRA). As such, any information exchanged with the Authority may be considered a public record and could be disclosed in response to a public records request.

How detailed should my request be?

Sweetwater Authority strongly recommends including details that will facilitate a focused search:

  • Provide a brief description of the record you are requesting, including the name or identification number, if known.
  • Provide the time frame or date range you are interested in, for example: Fiscal Year 2021 or from February 2020 to present.
  • When possible, identify the departments and/or employees that may be involved in the subject matter.
  • Avoid abbreviations.
